Caltanissetta is a modern town as well as the largest inland town in terms of population.

Situated above sinuous hill at an altitude of 568 meters. Part of this small town is of great historical interest where major religious buildings and aristocratic palaces are a tangible sign of the importance Caltanissetta held in the past. Its name comes from the Arabic “Qal-atnisa”, which means the Castle of women, today called Castle of Pietrarossa.

Easter time celebrations are particularly felt when, with religious processions, people celebrate their faith.
